Giving Yourself a Break

Giving Yourself a Break       For as much schoolwork that we all have, it's hard to give ourselves breaks during the week. When I have a lot of work to do during the day, I usually forget to give myself a 10-15 minute break because I am so focused on getting everything done, which isn't the best thing for your brain. Breaks let our minds recharge, even though it's only for a short amount of time. You might not believe it, but a break will give you the ability to focus more and comprehend more as well. It can also improve your overall performance. so give yourself time to rest your mind, especially on the weekends!

How I Cope

How I Cope      Ever since we have been back to in-person classes, my anxiety has skyrocketed. It has been such a difficult adjustment because we were online for so long. I know that other people are going through the same exact problem, so here are some ways I like to cope with my anxiety. I try to exercise at least 3-4 times a week. Even a short walk outside or on the treadmill could be good for stress relief. I also love to listen to music or draw. I've even reached out to campus counseling to talk about my anxiety, and it is slowly getting me back to my normal self before Covid. With that being said, cope with hobbies that you enjoy doing, and I also highly recommend talking to someone if you need to when struggling with anxiety, depression, etc. Use your resources, and always remember that it's so normal to not be okay all the time.

Balance is Key

Balance is Key      For the longest time, I thought that a diet was the only answer to losing weight. Between fasting, keto, and limiting myself to foods that I enjoyed, it only ended with me quitting the diet and binging the foods that I missed, and I was right back to square one.       When we were all in quarantine, I researched online and on social media about healthy ways to lose fat. I eventually came across a girl on TikTok. I can't remember her username, but she basically explained how balance is key. Her main point was that it is okay to eat the cookie or bowl of ice cream, and bagels aren't bad for you either! Do not limit yourself from the foods that make you happy, but make sure you are giving your body the nutrients that it needs to stay healthy at the same time, such as protein, carbs, fruits, vegetables, etc. Your body and mind will thank you when you are fueling yourself with foods that you actually enjoy. I'm not an expert, but I...

Unified Fitness

Unified Fitness          This semester, I am a Unified Fitness workout buddy for my Disability Sport class. Unified Fitness is a club for people with and without an intellectual disability. It is a great opportunity for people with disabilities to engage in physical activity with a friend or partner. I workout with my client every Tuesday at the ARC, and we do cardio, weights/weight machines, and body weight exercises. I always look forward to working out on those days because my client absolutely loves and enjoys Unified Fitness. It's not only a great experience, but it's an honor to be able to improve their overall day and help them stick to a healthy lifestyle. If you have the chance and would like to work with people with disabilities more, I highly recommend looking into Unified Fitness. There are also other programs to choose from as well, such as nutrition.
